the simple life.

What I've realized in the past few weeks, is that I like simple things. That may seem a little contradictory, considering that Juicy Couture is basically my life. But I feel that simple is all about perspective. Simple to me means clean lines and smooth surfaces. I've never been a fan of anything with too much texture or poor structure. I like to feel grounded (as I write this in my loft bed) and in sync with the earth and my body. I probably sound like a 40 year old Oprah guest. Oh well, at least I'm not confessing to a crime.

Winter 2012-2013 Trends

We don't have snow yet, but that doesn't mean we can't dress like we do. I'm currently wearing my Uggs all over the freaking place even though they are old and ugly. Comfyness wins out on that one. I've also been seeing cowls all over the place. My favorite version is the infinity scarf, which is a loop with one twist. you can loop it over its self for a double look or leave it longer. I wrote a knitting pattern for one on my new blog, llamasandcompany.blogspot.com . For coats this year, the trendy windbreakery type (think snowboarder) and wool trenches seem to be flying off the shopping websites. My new favorite place to internet shop is myhabit, which is an amazon service. If you're opposed to uggs, for boots you might want to try a cuter version of lace-up bean boots, like the ones at Roxy and Rocket Dog.
Thanks for keeping updated and cute! Everyone's contribution to cuteness helps the world be a prettier place to live. Tip- don't go to walmart on Saturday morning. It's when all the crazy people shop.
Adieu- (the newly brunette) Grace <3 p="p">

This is something I feel strongly about. Also, french braiding.

So, if you're a die-hard reader of Allure like me, you will have read the Essay in the recent issue. If you arn't or haven't read it, it's about a plus sized woman and her struggles with the word 'Fat'. I don't like the word. Fat can describe a body, but not a person. I hope that no one who is reading this blog has ever been called fat. But, truth is, you likely have been. Or you've called someone else fat. I have to admit... I'm no saint, but I try to keep the word off my lips. You have to remember, a body has a soul, no matter how big their subcutaneous layer is. And to everyone who has been called fat, remember, you are so much more.

If I was a celebrity, empowering women (and men) would be what I would like to be remembered for (along with getting a luxury bag named after me).

I would also like to do a bit of trend reporting. Lately, I have been more into hair. I have a bestie who can french braid her hair (without looking in gym class) in under 30 seconds. I turn around and she has a full-on fishtail going. I figured out how to do it, so I will probably be wearing braids for the next while. Also, about a month ago, I dyed the bottom of my hair pink. Well, in the above-mentioned Allure issue, guess what hair color trend is going on? Mhm. Thats right. Pink. I win.

Clothing. Right now is about classics: Riding boots, fur vests, cardigans, anything knit, and as always, slouchy hats. I am currently loving my Current/Elliott jeans as well as my James Jeans (both obtained under the stylish eye of my aunt). If you haven't been following the fashion weeks, well, you haven't missed anything too ingeneous. My dear Betsey had her last runway show, lingerie is making a comeback and so is color blocking and stripes, although I don't think the pair ever left.

Oh well. Love. Grace

Beach and Sand

So I named this collage Beaches, because most of the people are on the beach. This summer I'm really liking blond too. Not to say that brunette is bad. Both are beautiful when pulled off correctly. Also, the Louis Vuitton carousel photo is wicked cool. And the braided leather band on the bleached chick.
Anyways, It's like 90 degrees here, so I'm gonna go take a bike ride. Maybe bleach my hair.

see you later.

Straight A's this semester... Just sayin...

Okay, so for all of youse on edge about whether or not I would get A's, I got them. All 7 of them.

And for a funsies blog post, I'm going to take all of Allure's 2012 Readers Choice and tell you what I like better. For a teenage choice awards.

Skin

Facial Cleanser- Biore's Icy Blemish Fighter or whatever it's called. You know what I'm talking about.
Scrub- Actually, I use the one they nominated. St. Ives Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub.
Facial Moisturizer- Yeah, I use the one they said here. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. I too, wish it had SPF.
Anti-Aging- I just use sunscreen a lot. And Clinique's even better tone evening moisturizer or whatnot.
Eye Cream- I don't use one, but if I did, it would definitely be La Mer.

Makeup

Lipstick- M.A.C.'s Lady Gaga Viva Glam shade
Gloss- I have 3 favorites. 1. M.A.C. lip gelée (which I don't think they make anymore) 2. C.O. Bigelow's mentha lip shine 3. Neutrogena's MoistureShine Lip Soother
Blush- Any old clinique blush will do for me.
Eye Shadow- I don't use much, But if I did it would be elf, because I'm cheap.
Eyeliner- I usually use Covergirl's Perfect Point Plus, but I started using Smashbox, but it migrates a little to my eyelids, so I don't think I'll buy it again.
Mascara- I like Neutrogena's Healthy Length
Concealer- Uh, regular foundation? See below.
Foundation- Okay this is complicated. I use Clinique Acne Fighting LIQUID foundation when I'm tanish and Covergirl clean LIQUID foundation when I'm white. I use two different powders over them (for skin tone) one is Neutrogena, an one is Victoria's Secret- the only thing I've ever bought there.

Hair

Shampoo- anything for 'healthy length' because I'm growing my hair out.
Conditioner- same
volumizer- haha, no.
defrizzer- honestly, if they made a 'frizzer' i could use it and it would do nothing.
home hair color- protective cream.

Body

body scrub-  sometimes i make my own with sugar, soap, and a banana.
body lotion- AmLactin (helps with eczema)
self tanner- i use one, but its a small bit from a large bottle my dads girlfriend has.
deodorant- i like the secret clinical strength kind too, but outlast or toms of maine is fine too.
tooth whitener- i'm fifteen. we dont use this shit.
nail polish- whatever i like from what people give me.
I'm going to skip the whole fragrance classificaition thing. I like Hollister body spray, Viva La Juicy, and Harajuku Lovers G. oh and dior's the one for men.

Loves. Grace.
you're welcome.

My All-Nighter Fashion Spread

As you can see, I made this about 2 months ago, but it's still my summer inspiration. I just finished my freshman year, so summer is becoming my reality. I call this California Via NYC via Nantucket.

Anyways, I do a bit of pretend shopping so you can see where I'm coming from on some of this.

Proenza Schouler Bag- Okay this is out there. Way out there. Like, pluto. It's simply amazing however. (I'm secretly hoping they'll see this and give me a freebie) I have a Big Buddha bag that has a similar feel (without the I-Could-Have-Paid-Your-Rent-But-Bought-This-Bag-Instead-ness) and is 'vegan' or faux leather. I am, however, not opposed to leather.

Havaianas Flip Flops- I have had a mixed experience with these. One pair I had is still living somewhere (only too small for me) and another snapped on me. I know these arn't supposed to last forever, but still, it was disappointing.

Anything By Thakoon!- I especially love the scarf, red cardigan, yellow dress, and tuxedo jacket. I hope to see more of them this summer.

Okay. To close, my summer playlist.

Vanilla Twilight - Owl City

Double Vision- 3Oh!3

What Makes You Beautiful- One Direction

Hotel California- Eagles

Snow (Hey Oh)- Red Hot Chili Peppers

Drive- Incubus

Tonight Tonight- Hot Chelle Ray

Under The Bridge- Red Hot Chili Peppers

Follow Me Down- 3Oh!3

Every Morning- Sugar Ray

Jack and Diane- John Mellencamp

Island in the Sun- Weezer

Absolutely (Story of a Girl)- Nine Days

Glad You Came- The Wanted

You're Gonna Go Far, Kid- The Offspring

Bang Bang- 3Oh!3 (Can't wait to buy this!!)

and the favorite, Cinema- Benny Benassi

So, relax, grab your iPod, bass-enhansing stereo earbuds, and a frosty drink, and lay outside. repeat until school.

Love, grace

Los Angeles.

So, just stumbling upon, you know how you do, and I found stereomood. I have just begun to use it, I'm listening to the chilling station, but I really like the idea.

Anyways, so some life updates.
I get to go to california again this summer! I'll be in LA and San Fransisco, just hanging with my favorite aunts. (Love you Chris!)
I'm about to finish 9th grade on wednesday!
I'm smart... But some of my A's are lowish, and i'm afraid my finals will make them fall. I hope my grades  will stay up so I can go to Columbia or wherever.

And a few inspirations. (Tavi Gevinson makes amazing collage type things, so I think I might try that this weekend.)

It's weird, but I really like pavement. I am forever inspired by whiteish grey pavement on a hot, sunny day. Think concrete jungle.
Anyways. Have a good week. Congradulations seniors. love forever. grace.

My Fantasy Shopping List, or Things I Would Enjoy Buying Very Much, Thank You.

And, you're probably wondering what my summer faves are going to be....So, Here's a list.
Band: Cobra Starship, as always! (but I have been getting into dubstep and highly recommend it)

Now, You're probly all 'Dude, I thought this was a fashion blog man!' and I realize that. But I also believe that fashion and dressing are about looking put together and having the right 'look' which is achieved through beauty too. Like, if you got all dressed up in a huge, fluffy Ralph Lauren gown and 'decided' to forgo hair and makeup, most of us would look like zombies. So, I'll try for some fashion next time.

Late Night Realizations.

So this is mostly sh*t i pulled out of the air 'cause I haven't posted for awhile.
Christmas/winter inspiration.
1. Leia in Empire Strikes Back mainly cause it's on an icy planet. Like wisconsin in winter.
2. Gwen Stefani when she wears her freakishly cute LAMB coat that i really want but could never afford.
3.This north face coat, because it is adorable, but still functional.

Homecoming!

This weekend is Homecoming for me and others will follow suit. A lot of this year's dresses are very colorful and in modern styles, but personally, I prefer the ruffled look. Well, this is a short post, but yesterday you got cake, lucky ducks.

Trends. And Trends. And Cake.

Okay. Because this week is Homecoming Week at my school today was hippie day. I wore a purple shirt with a VW logo on it in batik rainbow colors. Yes, I know I was a legit hippie. But i was looking around and boy, do hippies have good taste. Except for the girl who wore a green dress with black and white circles and white go go boots. I think the philosophy that you wear what you want to wear is kick-ass. And, the best part is that flowy clothes are just so comfy! And hippy-ish! And freaking adorable! So, what I am trending is:
1. Wear what you like.
2. There is an extent to this rule though. As Mark Twain said, "Clothing makes the man. Naked people have little to no influence on society." This is what I mean. Now, in today's world you would be crazy to go outside naked. The modern version of this quote would be something like 'You are perceived by what you wear. If you wear ugly, shapeless clothes, people will think you are an ugly shapeless person.'
3. There is a gap in that rule too, though. I love a good sweatpants day. Just love it.

Now, because I promised you guys cake, here is an awesome recipe.

What Now Posers!

If anyone ever tells me I have no taste I am sending them straight here, to set them straight. This article is long overdue. I am sorry, people who read my blog, for not writing soon enough. I have crap to balance here! I am in high school and keeping my friends awesome! Not to mention the fashion blog you are currently looking at. Sooooo anyways. Here are my fashion rules. And why, because I am practicing to become a Because parent.
1. I never wear the same pants twice in 3 days. or more.
2. A good accessory can change an outfit.
3. Usually I only wear shirts once every 2 weeks but if it is a layering shirt, or I wore it with a sweater it can be accepted. There are many acceptions to this rule.
4. Shoes NEED to match. So often a look is ruined because you just had to wear those ugly, ugly, ugly shoes.
5. When in doubt about your hair, stick some glasses in it. Sun or real you will look more casually put together.
6. Bags. Oh lord. Bags. As a general rule of thumb a bigger bag makes you look smaller. BUT small bags are good for Athletic people, Tiny people, and people Wearing A Body-Con Dress.
7. VPL. Please do not wear tight pants such as yoga, gaucho, or spanx without seamless panties. nothing is more tacky than big lines on either side of your pants.
8. Bra Lines. It's okay to have straps if you are someplace casual or performing some sort of activity BUT this is totally inappropriate for anyone teaching or doing some sort of instruction. There is also nothing wrong with having some lines on your back unless you are at a black tie event. BUT front lines are another story. They are awful, gross, and vulgar. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THEM!
9. Last one for today. A certain person in my English 9 class, who is in fact a sophomore, does not wear pants. It bugs the ampersands out of me. Spandex are appropriate for these three: people in Colorguard, wearing a skirt, and women taking care of a muffin freaking top. You cannot wear them as pants. Especially not with bright red fishnets. Guys will make fun of you, not hit on you. Especially because you've got a bracelet on your arm that says SEXY and too much makeup and ya aint that skinny. SO THERE POSERS!

California girls

I'm here in San Fransisco visiting. It's beautiful here and so is the fashion. They sell everything here year round. I mean want a wool sweater? H&M has a cute model. The people have great taste too though. I was at a cafe the other day when three other fashionistas sat down next to us. One had crazy spiked orange hair. she was channeling a granny going to church at macy's. Anyway. ttyl. Hearts!! Grace.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Okay, maybe this is just a crazy rant but...

Why in the world would anyone want to wear a t-shirt that practically makes you a freaking walking billboard??????????Seriously. Reasons why I don't shop at Hollister, Abercrombie&Fitch, and Aeropostdale:

  1. They are not flattering.
  2. They are made of the simplest materials and cost fortunes.
  3. Almost everybody already owns the same thing.
  4. FOR GOD'S SAKES THEY ARN'T EVEN CUTE! I mean no monkeys or hearts or anything!!
OKay, I'm good now. Bye!!! grace
